Most men’s manhood and masculinity in society is defined by our age old ability/ Self-worth to “provide and conquer” Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. The word conquer, as it is used in this context is a man’s ability to overcome the challenges between himself and his desires. I think many would agree that to be able to provide is directly connected with man’s social economic status or man’s natural desire to work and achieve which is a man’s conquest. When men don’t have the ability to provide and conquer or rule their world successfully (Purpose) with honor, hopelessness/defeat can set in. Hopelessness can give way to a life without purpose that’s a day to day struggle of existence. Existence is (Destiny). This existence for some has led to the lack of sobriety due to drug and alcohol abuse to cope with their struggle. This lack of existence/destiny has led to the loss of self-respect & Love. This existence has led to incarceration because many men, in the absence of education, have adopted counterfeit measures to provide and have adopted their own code of ethics of how they go about overcoming the challenges between themselves and their desires. Men who perceive repeated failures in their lives can lose empathy for themselves (Self-worth) and others out of frustration and self-preservation. The biggest challenge is relinquishing the emotional hang ups, habits, and hurts that seem to influence the behaviors that get in the away of Building a New You.
