A 1940s’ Harlem jazz singer on the verge of stardom, Caramel Jenkins, is grappling with a philandering husband and her flowering psychic gifts. While launching a search for her missing friend. Whom the police suspect is an accessory to the murder of a Harlem socialite’s husband.
The police consider the couple as persons of interest. And they are driven to the precinct for further questioning. After leaving the precinct, Caramel is incensed by their mistreatment and the smearing of her friend’s reputation. Whom the detectives insinuate is a communist and a prostitute. Consequently, the jazz singer vows to find her missing friend before the police arrest her. And she uncovers a bombshell from her friend’s past in the process.
